I ts been snowing since the moment  I woke up and as I type this and look out the window, the snowflakes are still falling albeit slowly.   I went out into the garden briefly, the snow was soft and slushy.  I saw some people with children walking up the lane with sleighs to go up in the hills.  Its not for me.  I have never really liked the snow, even when I was a child - I really disliked playing snowballs, all that cold ice trickling down ...even the snow angels don't sing to me. Healthy Vegan - Smoked Paprika Chutney No it's more like Ketchup

I spent a few hours in the garden over the weekend.  Clearing vegetable plots in readiness for next year.   I have pulled out the last of the marrow and courgette plants and did a quite a bit of weeding. The squash and pumpkin plants did not do well at all, so they got pulled out too.  These are the last courgettes, some with flowers in tact.  I will be chopping and then roasting them in the oven with a little oil and seasoning, and then dousing them with a squirt of fresh lemon juice to be served as a side dish. The red tomatoes i n the greenhouse are still coming along.  Soon there will be no more red tomatoes, just greens ones. I will have to pick up some jars, so that I can make green tomato chutney .  We also have some rainbow chard in the garden plot.  My husband, who I affectionately call D on the blog pulled out the last of the rhubarb stalks. I thought they may have been too far gone, but apparently the season ends September....

Healthy Vegan - Dwindling Harvest

I can't believe that its been over a month since I contributed to Harvest Monday, but you will understand why - vegetables and fruit are beginning to dwindle. The last of the cooking apples fell from the tree to the ground over the weekend with the heavy rain and gusts of strong winds.  Here are some tomatoes from the greenhouse.  Its the longest time we have let tomatoes grow on in the greenhouse, often clearing it to sow some winter salad. Do you think that I could still sow winter salad in the greenhouse? I  have used the late tomatoes mostly as pasta sauce.   I got a load of pears this year from the tree.  In fact its the first year we have actually had any, so I was busy baking with them.   From this gorgeous Pear Cinnamon Cake to preserving them in some star anise and cinnamon flavoured syrup.  Looking forward to enjoying these with warm chocolate brownies and vanilla ice-cream.
